Mainstream Media Provides Cover for Joe Biden’s Failing Campaign

Joe Biden has been a gaffe-prone politician for the duration of his decades' long career in Washington, but it seems now that Biden can’t get through any appearance without committing some sort of blunder.

Last Friday, Biden appeared on the Breakfast Club with Charlamagne the God to appeal to black voters, but that did not happen after Biden stated: “I tell you, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

What should have been an explosive blow to the Biden campaign was swiftly amended and swept under the rug by the left-leaning news outlets keen on carrying their Democratic darling, Joe Biden through the campaign cycle.

Symone Sanders, a senior Biden campaign advisor, quickly released a statement on Twitter following the comments: “Vice President Biden spent his career fighting alongside and for the African American community. He won his party's nomination by earning every vote and meeting people where they are and that's exactly what he intends to do this November. 1/ The comments made at the end of the Breakfast Club interview were in jest, but let’s be clear about what the VP was saying: he was making the distinction that he would put his record with the African American community up against Trump’s any day. Period.”

The Washington Post was quick to accept that the comment had been made in jest without any further questioning and the AP couldn’t help themselves to the opportunity to accept Sanders’ explanation while taking a jab at President Trump, falsely accusing him of being a racist.  The Washington Post then released an opinion piece, “Come on. Biden’s ‘you ain’t black’ comment was clearly a joke.”

Can you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot? The media would never give a Republican politician, much less give the President a pass on a comment so flagrantly offensive.

Biden’s non-apology came later on in the day on a call with black business leaders, “I shouldn’t have been such a wise guy. I shouldn’t have been so cavalier. I don’t take it for granted at all and no one should have to vote for any party based on their race, religion, or background. There are African Americans who think Trump is worth voting for. I don’t think so and I’m prepared to put my record against his, that was the bottom line and it was really unfortunate, I shouldn’t have been so cavalier.”

Outlets like the New York Times, the Associated PressThe Washington PostYahoo NewsBusiness InsiderUSA TodayNBC News, and Reuters accepted the non-apology (did Biden ever say the word “sorry”?) without any follow-up or mention of Biden’s tendency to shirk the realities of his record like his role in mass incarceration and policies that have been damaging to Black communities.

There will be many more Joe Biden gaffes to come as we near Election day, and American voters will not be fooled by headline fodder. While we can be sure the media will cast off future gaffes as jokes or as harmless missteps, Americans must recall Joe Biden’s unimpressive career, littered with alarming statements that have only grown more common as his tact has disappeared. Remember, the fake news media will prop up Joe Biden because it has become abundantly clear that he cannot do this on his own.
