CBS’ Fake News Streak

It’s no surprise how coronavirus brought out the worst in the fake news media. From consistently repeating the lie President Trump called the virus a hoax to blaming the president for the death of a man who ingested fish tank cleaner as means of curing COVID-19, “reporters” are running with every conspiracy that criticizes the president and divides the country during this national crisis.

One of the most egregious offenders? CBS “News.” Here are their three worst coronavirus lies:

1. On March 25, 2020, CBS aired a segment called “Desperation in New York as coronavirus cases there continue to skyrocket.” The segment began with Dr. Birx discussing how New York City was the epicenter of the virus and cut into b-roll footage of a hospital overrun with coronavirus patients, which leftists used as a perfect opportunity to criticize President Trump’s handling of the crisis. The problem? The ‘shocking’ footage used to show a hospital in NYC came from ITALY. Even worse? After being called out for their mistake, less than a week later, CBS used the same footage to describe a hospital in Pennsylvania.
    
2. On April 5, 2020, CBS shared a video on Twitter of a crying woman claiming to be a nurse who quit her job after being forced to treat patients with Coronavirus without access to personal protective equipment. The clip immediately went viral, especially after being shared by Bernie Sanders. HOWEVER, the video, which as of May 7th is still posted on CBS’s Twitter account, raised serious concerns. Right before CBS aired the video, the “nurse” shared on her public Facebook page that she had not worked at the hospital in over a year. How did that detail slip past CBS’ fact-checkers?
    
3. On May 6, 2020, CBS aired an interview with Governor Gretchen Whitmer during which footage showed a line outside the Cherry Health facility in Michigan, which the governor used to blame the Trump administration for not doing enough to prepare for testing needs. The kicker? Medical workers at the Cherry Health facility staged themselves as patients in line to make the situation seem worse. 

In a time of fear and uncertainty, the American public should be able to watch the news to learn facts about what they need to do to stay safe. Instead, the lame-stream media is beset with lies, bias, and a political agenda.

Americans deserve better.
