Liberal Hypocrisy: Protest Edition

It’s an indisputable fact that Democrats have been champions of keeping the country locked down no matter the impact it has on the economy, mental health, education, etc.

Even as America has seen stable ICU numbers, surplus amounts of personal protective equipment, an increase in available coronavirus tests, and a decrease in COVID cases and COVID related deaths, liberals in the media and elected officials are staunchly against reopening the country.

In fact, Democrats have gone so far as saying we cannot open the country & allow millions of Americans to get back to work because it would paint President Trump in a positive light.

But as usual, rules for Democrats only apply when they deem it convenient.

Over the weekend, Americans saw mass protests and riots across the country in response to police brutality. And while no one is criticizing the peaceful protestors and their mission, these late-night riots gathered together tens of thousands of individuals without masks actively avoiding social distancing guidelines. 

It was just over a month ago after the Republican governor of Georgia announced plans to reopen the state that The Atlantic ran a piece titled, “Georgia’s Experiment in Human Sacrifice.”

Similarly, when the Republican governor of Florida began phasing out the state’s stay-at-home order, Washington Post said, “But as he begins to end Florida’s stay-at-home order while the coronavirus pandemic continues to rip through the United States, it’s hard not to imagine the governor standing astride the alligator cage, hollering at the rest of the country to check out what’s about to happen.”

So where’s the outrage at people not safely going out into public in limited groups, but rather at those storming city centers, burning churches, and vandalizing local businesses?

At the outset of the coronavirus pandemic, Americans were forced to believe shutting down the county took priority over all other issues, such as shuttering small businesses, denying church-goers their constitutional right to worship, and ignoring mass increases in unemployment numbers.

But Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who is still preventing Americans from going to church, tweeted his support and praise of the riots over the weekend.

So it turns out stopping the spread of coronavirus isn’t more important than everything else happening around the country, just whatever liberals cherry-pick to care about.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Democrats.
